Prisoner leaves court in stitches after revealing his reason for escaping

CHINHOYI prison escapee, Never Jongwe, left the court in stitches on Friday when he told magistrate Brenda Dhliwayo that he escaped because he was longing for se_x with his girlfriend.

But Dhliwayo did not spare him as she sentenced him to 12 months for escaping from lawful custody.

Jongwe, who was serving a sentence for theft and was on the wanted list for other theft charges, will, however, effectively serve an eight-month jail term after four months were suspended on condition of good behaviour.

It was the State’s case that on July 1 this year, Jongwe bolted out of prison after he was assigned to wash cars for the public to fund raise for a Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services’ income-generating project.

After storming out of the prison complex, Jongwe spent the evening at his girlfriend’s house in Gadzema high-density suburb before he was arrested on his way home in Chikonohono the following day.
