Jan Matlala is pleading with his ex-wife. Jan claims his ex-wife Siyabonga Zama cleaned out their house five years ago while he was at work.
She also took his underpants and his socks and he wants them back. “It’s not that I want to use them. I want them back so I can burn them.” Five years after Jan and Siyabonga separated, Siyabonga is back demanding a share of the family’s driving school business.
But Jan insists the business belongs to his family. For the past two months Siyabonga has been camping at the driving school, disrupting business and demanding she be given her share. She feels Jan paid lobola for her and that as his wife, she is entitled to half of the business.
Jan runs the driving school which he started 30 years ago with his younger brother Sello, following the death of their elder brother three months ago. Jan (55) said Siyabonga left without telling him.
“She took 12 of my underpants and 18 pairs of socks,” he said. “I ask myself why she did that? She must bring back my underwear.” When Daily Sun visited Jan at his business, Siyabonga and her mother Nolwandle Mazibuko (59) were there.
Nolwandle said she is also involved. “This man can’t treat my daughter like dirt while I am still here,” she said.
“They are married so this driving school belongs to her as well.” Siyabonga said she only took things that belonged to her when she left.
“By law we are still married. He used to cheat on me but now it is my turn to show him who is boss.”
