JUSTICE BHUNU was on remote control from day one : MDC youths

The Youth Assembly of the main opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) has reacted angrily to what it calls the “politically motivated” and “unjust sentencing” to 20 years in jail of fellow party members who were accused of killing police inspector Petros Mutedza in Glen View five years ago.

On Monday, Justice Chinembiri Bhunu whose handling of the case has been fraught with controversy, slapped Tungamirai Madzokere, Yvonne Musarurwa, Last Maengahama, who were convicted of murder with actual intent last September, with 20 years each.

But in statement sent to Nehanda Radio, the MDC-T Youth Assembly said;

“It is clear from the time our comrades were arrested, right throughout the sham trial and subsequent conviction that there was massive evidence of the political hand of the failed ZANU PF regime at work in this whole saga and we believe that Justice Chinembiri Bhunu was on remote control from day one.

The youths said they viewed the whole saga “as a cheap shot at intimidation to cow the disgruntled citizens of this country into submission at a time when the clueless rogue regime is clearly in sixes and sevens with regards to what course of action to take in order to bring a semblance of life, sanity and accountability to the once-vibrant inherited economy which now lies comatose in the intensive care section.”

“It is clear that they have milked our economy dry through a sickening lack of goodwill, destructive partisan policies, wholesale graft and corruption of mammoth proportions and a motley of other vices they authored and perfected over the years.”

In a warning directed at President Robert Mugabe’s government and the ruling Zanu PF party the MDC-T youths said they viewed the incarceration of their fellow comrades as “a declaration of war not only on the MDC-T family but the nation as a whole.”

“We refuse to fold our hands whilst our comrades spend a second longer in jail. We refuse to fold our hands whilst our fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters are brutalized by this blood-sucking monster in the name of Robert Mugabe and ZANU PF.
