Zimbabwe’s Leading music distributor Metro Studios has said musician Hosiah Chipanga’s latest album, Gamba, has proved to be a fast seller, with all the copies released onto the market two weeks ago selling out.

The studio’s sales agent, David Mapuranga, told NewsDay that while he could not divulge the figures, sales of the album had been very high, particularly in Harare and Mutare.

“On the day of release, the copies that were released onto the market in Mutare and Harare were sold out. Right now, demand is very high and in all major cities of the country, the album is selling very well,” he said.

Despite an unofficial blackout from State-run radio stations, Chipanga has managed to retain his popularity with the latest album dedicated to the late Retired General Solomon Mujuru finding many takers.

Chipanga said he was surprised that although his music was not played on local radio stations anymore, fans were demanding it.

He said he had used social media such as his Facebook fan page and live shows to market his music.

“I have found solace with this album, which is available in music shops around the country and at Metro Studios. I urge people to buy original copies,” he said.

In the title track, Chipanga questions Mujuru’s controversial death, casting aspersions on the authorities.
