A DISGRUNTLED man who could not stomach being ditched by his fiance is demanding that her family should refund the lobola deposit he paid.
Bekhimpilo Ngwenya form Phumula North suburb in Bulawayo could not wait to marry his long time sweetheart Nosisa Masibi .
However ,he was disappointed when her mother later refused to bless the marriage. This was after he had paid lobola deposit of $2 275 .
The spurned Ngwenya, besides demanding the portion of the lobola money ,threatened that he would kill Masibi whenever they meet .
Masibi, now living in fear, last Friday approached the Bulawayo Civil Court seeking a restraining order against Ngwenya.
“I was in a relashionship with Bhekimpilo Ngwenya.Ever since we parted ways he has been threatening that if ever he saw me with another man he would kill me .As a result of his threats,I am now living in fear.I want this court to protect me from his violent behaviour,”she said.
Ngwenya in response told the presiding magistrate Sheunesu Matova that his ex-lovers request for a protection order was just a way to stop him from demanding the bride price he paid for her.
What she’s saying is not true. What happened is that we had agreed that I was going to marry her and I paid lobola deposit of $2 275.After some time ,I was shocked that her parents had refused to bless the marriage saying it was no longer possible for me to marry her.
On the 17th of March this year we had a meeting with her family where her mother declared to me that she was no longer interested in me being her son-in-law.That is when I started demanding the $2 275 I had initially paid as lobola deposit.Upon hearing my request that is when they became extremely hostile towards me.That is also the reason why she approached this court seeking a protection order against me.Her mother almost physically assaulted me during the meeting said the robbed Ngwenya.
The magistrate, however said if Ngwenya wanted his money back he should use proper channels before he ordered him not to threaten the applicant in any way or visit her home to disturb her peace.
