IT WAS freezing down there when two shoplifters from Bulawayo’s Nkulumane suburb were arrested early this week with two kilogramme packets of frozen chicken stashed between their thighs.
If they had been successful, their families would have had happy meals, not knowing where the food had been stored. The two darling shoplifters are said to have loitered inside the supermarket for a few minutes before each of them allegedly stashed a packet of dozen chicken pieces between their legs.
“They were wearing long dresses and I could sense that there was something strange about them.As they walked out of the shop I asked for receipts since I had seen them opening the refrigerators. They said they did not buy anything then they walked out,”explained the supermarket security guard.
As the chicken thieves made their way out with the loot the security guard who was still not convinced with their story asked to conduct a body search.
One of them ran away leaving her friend who was literally undressed by vendors. She was thoroughly beaten up then escorted to the police station in a van,”he said.
Her accomplice in the shoplifting enterprise was later apprehended.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Precious Simango said the two women were fined and released.
“I confirm that we received a report of theft by two women who stole packets of frozen chicken from a supermarket in Nkulumane and they were fined,”said Simango.
Last week,a daring Gweru thief was caught with two dresses worth $100 stashed between her thighs in a clothing shop after she was captured on CCTV in the act.She was later “baptised”with a bag of flour for stealing the items according to the Chronicle.
